Welcome to Cheyenne Elementary School!  My name is Mark Johnson and I am the Principal at Cheyenne Elementary.  I have been serving the Chippewa Valley community since 2005 at the elementary and secondary levels.  Over the past fifteen years I have been a third grade teacher at Miami Elementary, and have worked as part of the administrative teams at Iroquois Middle School, Wyandot Middle School, Shawnee Elementary and Cheyenne Elementary.

Like you, my children attend Chippewa Valley Schools.  My wonderful wife is a Kindergarten teacher at Miami Elementary, my son attends Miami Elementary, and I have two daughters who attend Wyandot Middle School.

As an administrator I believe in building positive relationships between the school and community.  My goal as Cheyenne's Principal is to be an educational resource for staff, students and parents.  At the core of every successful educational experience is a team of parents, educators, and students working together to make learning meaningful and engaging.  Cheyenne offers many programs for students and families to be involved in.  Take advantage of the great events the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) coordinates and bring the whole family!

Our goal at Cheyenne is to ensure the safety of all students and staff every day.  Chippewa Valley Schools has put into place security measures for all buildings for the 2019-2020 school year.

All school doors will be locked while students are in session (9:05 AM - 3:50 PM).
Enter through the Main North doors only.  All other doors will remain locked.
Doors will be open for student arrival and dismissal, and day/evening programs.
At the Main Entrance, all visitors MUST press the Office button for access to the Office.  There is a Latchkey button to notify Child Care.  Please look directly into the camera and provide your name, name of your student and teacher’s name for our employees monitoring the camera.  Please present your identification to our Office staff or in the case of SACC, our Child Care staff.

The weather will begin to cool off as Fall gets into full swing.  Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.  Students will continue to line up outside of the building, during morning arrival, except during inclement weather.

As part of our Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports (PBIS) initiative, we will be having “Sunshine Time” on Monday afternoons. Sunshine Time builds community and relationships within our building as well as helping to teach character education.  We are excited to use Sunshine Time to foster relationships among staff and students, have younger students learn from older students, and have our older students mentor younger students.  We can’t wait to see the positive impact this has on our Cheyenne community as a whole!

Fall Conferences will be held in the evening on Wednesday, October 23rd, and the afternoon and evening on Thursday, October 24th.  A sign-up genius link will be available on our website, asking for you to select a preferred day and time to meet with your child’s teacher.

Our 2018-2019 M-STEP results were released, and Cheyenne students in grades 3, 4 and 5 scored above the state and district average in ELA and Math.  Our students have a strong work ethic and continue to put forth incredible effort to be successful.  Well done Cheyenne students!

Student safety is always a top priority. We have outlined in this newsletter a few reminders about our parking lot to help ensure our students are safe when entering and exiting the building. Please take a few moments to read through the parking lot procedures. If we all follow these guidelines, we will have a safe parking lot for all our Cheyenne families. Thank you for your cooperation.

Yours in education,

Mr. Johnson
